Here I lay in bed recovering from hip replacement surgery, which occured last Wednesday. During surgery, one is splayed out on a special table, with the legs in holding devices. The legs can be flexed and measured, and the new hip inserted through the front, which makes recovery easier than it used to be when the gluteus maximus was cut. I went to Oakland Kaiser to have this special approach. Home on Friday. The best part of the hospital stay are all the nice drugs they give you. Morphine, oxycodone, Ambien, Diladid. Once home i stop taking narcotics as they mess up my whole body. And fortunately my pain is not too bad as long as I don't walk on it. So I can catch up on my reading and start some art work, and hope to be driving as soon as possible. More soon.
Here I am at the preview show for Art at the Source. This last weekend (and next) 153 artists open their studios to the public. We had a great turnout despite rain and wind, very rare for June. The appreciation for what I do was so inspiring and will warm me the rest of the year as I keep creating. Nex week end will be sunny and i bet we have even more than the 150 or so people we saw this weekend.
I see my English students today, and work with a young mother with a 7 month and 5 year old, her mother in law and her friend. Her husband works all the time so is rarely present. She is earger to learn and has gained a small vocabulary so far....like "Good morning teacher." She is very smart and learns fast. Sometimes she nurses her baby while studying her lessons. We laugh alot and I forget whether I am speaking with them in Spanish or they with me in English. Blending cultures and building unity, on person at a time!
Life is a blank canvas on which we paint our impressions, experiences, wisdom, compassion, and laughter.
