My last blog left off at the kennel cough incident. Nicky came to our house from a distant shelter, to be euthanized the next day. He drank lots of chicken broth, yogurt and soft prescription dog food, along with antibiotics. He slept in a blanket on a pillow. Once recovered, he had dental surgery. 13 teeth were pulled and now he has a crooked smile. He is missing mostly the small teeth, and still manages to crunch a peanut butter treat from Trader Joe's and eats some dry kibble with his canned. He is learning to go potty in all the right spots. (So I felt confident to order new carpet for the whole house) Many have said I must be crazy! So, we were trotting down the street the other day and he started to limp. It progressed to not using his right leg and I carried him home. Lo and behold, he had an abcess between his toes. $300 later and he is again on antibiotics. But walking just fine one day later. Sometimes I wonder if he gets sick just to have more chicken broth and coddling. He is now laying in the sun like a cat soaking up some rays. Having very short hair, he gets cold easily. He likes heating pads and burrowing under blankets to sleep. But the tear tracks down his face (from dental pain) are all gone. yeah!!
Life is a blank canvas on which we paint our impressions, experiences, wisdom, compassion, and laughter.
